On the saddle: cycling sports

Content

The bike is a versatile all-rounder and available in numerous versions. Some like it fast and ride road bike or gravel bike, others are looking for a little more action and use the mountain bike or BMX. In this article we present the different types of cycling. Surely there is something suitable for you.

The wheel: a varied classic

Whether as a means of transport or for sport, where would we be without the bicycle… Whether trekking or mountain bike, the designs and possibilities are countless. Here we introduce you to 3 different types of cycling

Road bike

The road bike, as the name suggests, is designed for speed. Therefore, it is very light, on average between 7 and 9 kilos, so can pick up decent speed and cover kilometers. To keep the resistance low, the seating position is very bent forward. The tires are extremely narrow to keep friction low. In return, however, it can then only be ridden on roads as well as asphalt paths. The gravel bike is somewhat different…

Gravelbike

The gravel bike is a popular alternative to the road bike. There are two main differences: Firstly, a gravel bike has wider tires so that it can also be ridden on rough terrain, for example on paved dirt roads. In addition, the frame geometry is different, so that you sit a little more upright on the gravel bike and therefore usually more comfortable. The gravel bike is also fast, but a bit slower than a road bike, which is also due to the fact that the gravel bike is a bit heavier.

BMX

BMX is the abbreviation for Bicycle Motocross, where the X in this case stands for the “cross”. We are talking about relatively small bikes with 20 inch wheels. A BMW is not intended to cover long distances, because the focus is on performing various tricks and stunts. For example, ramps are used to do a backflip in the air with the bike. Such tricks require a bit of courage – after all, the risk of injury is not small – but it certainly looks cool.

Mountain biking: Driving fun guaranteed

Mountain biking is a sport that uses a bike with a thick profile and suspension to ride on uneven terrain. It challenges the body and improves endurance, strength and balance. Concentration and coordination are also strengthened as the biker must react quickly on unfamiliar trails. Although cycling uphill (without an e-bike) is strenuous, the descent is all the more fun. Depending on preference and ability, you can choose more or less flowing trails, which may also include roots, steps or jumps. Therefore, the protective equipment consisting of helmet, protectors and cycling gloves is indispensable.
