How to become a Teamcaptain

Content

Are you already a team captain or have you always wanted to be one? In this article you will learn how to create a team, what your tasks as a team captain are, how to successfully motivate your team and how to lead it to victory.

Why create your own team?

Of course, you can join any team, but it’s also worth starting your own. On the one hand, you can team up with colleagues with whom you would like to motivate yourself. On the other hand, you have the possibility to include people with the same interests and hobbies in your team, so that you have a common sport, through which you can collect a lot of points for your team account. This gives you the optimal conditions to push and maintain the motivation and team spirit in the troop.

Tasks of a team captain

Create a team & register for the Challenge

To be captain of a team, you first need one. The first step is to create a team and choose a name.  Once you have done that, you can register your team for the Challenge – all you need now are your teammates.

Invite your colleagues

Now it’s time to put together your team. Think about the people you would like to have on your side and invite your colleagues to join the team. You are free to decide how big your team should be.

Define goals

What makes a group of people a team? That’s right, a goal that is pursued with united efforts. As a team captain, you can set a goal and use it to define the expectation. A good goal is SMART:

  • Specific: Describe a concrete value such as miles or points to be achieved.
  • Measurable: Progress should be verifiable, i.e. measurable. The Teamfit app’s metrics provide the optimal basis for this, as you can see your successes at a glance and see how far you’ve already come.
  • Achievable: The set goal should definitely be within the realm of possibility as an achievement of the team, i.e. it should be achievable and feasible. Closely related to this is the last aspect of a smart goal.
  • Realistic: The goal can be ambitious, but not utopian. Goals are there to be achieved and not to be demotivated if you don’t reach them even with all your efforts.
  • Terminated: Set a specific deadline by which the desired goal should be achieved. This provides a clear framework without unnecessarily dragging out your plan. Besides, we all know the motivating effect and are even more diligent, the closer the deadline comes.

You can set about 700 points per member and day. It’s best to set short milestones for yourself and your team so that you can achieve small successes more often. In addition, you have different types of goals to choose from, which differ in terms of activities:

  1. general fitness: simply set a total number of points to be achieved as a goal.
  2. general fitness (weighted): Set a combination of endurance and strengthening points as a goal.
  3. endurance: set a target number of endurance points to be achieved
  4. strengthening: set a target number of strengthening points to be achieved
  5. selected sports: Select sports and set a target for them, from which the target number of points to be achieved is derived.

Communication & motivation

As team captain, you have the leading role and should also ensure the necessary communication within the team. Keep each other up to date and talk to each other, this also increases motivation within the team. In the following section you will learn how to motivate your team members.

Tips for more motivation & team spirit

Define goals in the team

A team works best when its members make the common goal their own. You can achieve this especially if you include your fellow team members in the goal setting process. In addition, goal setting is adapted to the needs and resources of the group, as individuals can assess how much they can and want to contribute to achieving it.

Joint activities

Getting closer to victory while having a great time in the group? That can be combined in joint activities. Get together for sports sessions – not only is it fun, but it also brings you together as a team and adds a lot of points to your team account. Try out sports together that none of you are familiar with. In this way, you can create variety and experience something new together. You can take photos of joint activities and not only create memories, but also earn extra points.

Appreciation & Recognition

Mutual appreciation and recognition of achievements promotes positive cooperation and motivates team members to continue working hard for the team and the common goal. Everyone gives as much as they can, so even small steps towards achieving goals should be recognized. Encourage each other and always see progress of individuals as such for the whole team.

Celebrate success

When you have achieved a goal, it is time to pat yourselves on the back. Reward yourselves with a meal together and talk about your joint success to motivate you for upcoming challenges.

Don't lose the fun

Even if all teams ambitiously fight against each other and want to get the victory, you should never lose the fun in the joy. If the achievement of the goal or the victory in the challenge is more important than the activities and the sports together, then all motivation will be lost. In the Challenges, you should primarily enjoy acting as a team, earning points through fun activities, and simply having a good time.
